The Music Industry made me a monster – Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale has voiced out that the Ghanaian music industry have painted him in a bad light and have portrayed him as a monster or violent person and a drug abuser.

In a twitter space organized by Serwaa Amihere, Shatta Wale made the assertion that the ‘monster’ he has been made to look like or portrayed to be, is a what the music industry wants him to look like.

Speaking in the space, he said that he was a ‘Dada-bee’ who did not know how to insult or hold grudges, even on the street; and that every insults he has come to dish out to people, all came about when he began doing music.

He further insinuated that his aggressive nature and style now is as a result of unprofessional people running the spaces, which caused him to develop an aggressive character to combat the false assertions that have been and still being bundled around about him.

Speaking to Serwaa, he said, “Ghanaians have made me a monster, because this is a Dada Bee boy that left his Daddy’s house and did not know anything about insults, but when I came on the streets and started hustling, I met people that were teaching me respect, but when my music popped up well I had people saying things that they didn’t know about me. Serwaa, if someone calls you a drug addict, will you have behaved normal? I am not a drug addict.”

He further explained, that it bothers him anytime someone calls him a drug addict because according to him, if you are building a house and someone comes to break the house, there is no way you will behave normal, and its the same with him when he sees people make negative assertions about him, it affects him and makes him not behave normal.

The Dancehall artiste, recounted that it is the perception of him being a disrespectful person and a drug addict, that created the kind of monster in him.

Shatta Wale, on several times, and on different platforms have squashed the perception that he is a drug addict or is involved in substance abuse. He has always been of the notion that all these allegations are false and that they are contrary to who he really is. He said that he stopped smoking weed because he wanted to show that is motivation came from a greater source, which is God and his faith in God, as well as his passion for the dancehall music. However, he stated that he only smokes occasionally, and not as often as people often say.
